Faculty and Staff
CHHS Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies are important institutional ceremonies that are the culmination of a student's career in the College of Health and Human Sciences. These ceremonies are significant symbolic events for students and their families and, as such, require participation of the faculty as the ranking members of the academic community. As a professional responsibility (Academic Faculty and Administrative Professional Manual, section I.13 Attendance at Graduation Ceremonies) and as a show of support for students, all full-time faculty are encouraged to attend both ceremonies but at a minimum are expected to attend one commencement ceremony a year.
Each department will be responsible for developing a plan for implementing the policy. Academic units with only graduate programs (Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Education) are responsible for developing a plan for faculty participation at CSU Graduate Commencement Ceremonies.
Faculty marshals play important roles in the undergraduate commencement ceremony. Student marshals guide students through the processional, individual recognition, and recessional, maintaining a sense of decorum and providing direction to ensure an orderly ceremony. Banner marshals represent each academic unit during the processional and recessional, and assist with the overall flow of the ceremony. Training is provided for all marshals. Faculty are encouraged to connect with your unit's central commencement contact to learn more about these roles and to volunteer.
Faculty orders are coordinated by each unit office directly with the supplier, Unique Recognition/Herff Jones. Faculty should reserve regalia online using the link and codes on the Faculty Regalia Order form that will be provided early in the semester on this web page and via email to each unit. Faculty cap, gown, and tassel rental is still TBD. No payment is needed to place a reservation. Faculty who have rented regalia before are already in the system. Units can coordinate group Pcard payment and delivery by calling (970) 663-2668. Units with three or more orders may choose to have them shipped directly to one location. See the order form for more details. Payment can also be made with cash or Pcard at the distribution prior to the ceremony. All regalia must be returned in Moby C-Wing Intramural Gym following your last ceremony.
To assist students in determining which commencement ceremony to attend, please consult the Commencement Attendance flyer. Students wishing to participate in a ceremony other than their Anticipated Graduation Term are encouraged to provide their name and contact information on the the CHHS Fall 2017 Commencement Walk-Through Information Survey, with a link available here early in the semester.
