User 1st >>> Design Next- Fall 2023
This semester each student developed a small collection of inclusive or adaptive garments. The collections were developed from background research with participants who fit their target markets. Each student used CLO3D to develop virtual prototypes of the garments in their line, they virtually draped the garments on 3D body scans of their fit models or virtual avatars and produced at least one prototype garment from their inclusive and adaptive lines. Students used traditional sewing techniques as well as advanced prototyping technologies like laser cutting, UV printing, and 3D printing to bring their design concepts to reality.

Inclusive Capstone Collection
Students were challenged to create an inclusive capstone collection of five pieces that serve the needs of an underrepresented target market, such as people with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Envisioning the title of the exhibition
With the addition of a user-centered design component to the course, students worked with members of the disability community to shape the student’s designs. Putting the user first and human interaction was the foundation of the capstones this year, and we designed a logo to reflect the class’s inspiration.

Exhibiting Student Work
From Dec. 5-15, 2023, the student’s projects were on exhibit at the Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising.

Fall 2023 Featured Student Projects
Novel and innovative product ideas were awarded through financial awards. Sponsored in whole from Cotton Incorporated, each award was judged by a panel of industry professionals.
