The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes a CHHS graduating senior for outstanding performance including academic achievement, leadership, research, service, and/or creative endeavors. Student must be an undergraduate student graduating in the academic year the award is bestowed (must have intent to graduate in the current academic year – Fall, Spring or Summer term).

As a double major in Health and Exercise Science and Biomedical Sciences, Matthew has maintained an impressive 3.985 GPA while serving as a teaching assistant and excelling in independent research.

Andy’s achievements are truly extraordinary. As a doctoral student, Andy has combined his expertise in neuroimaging, motor control, and biomechanics to develop innovative solutions for individuals with multiple sclerosis. His research on movement rehabilitation has already resulted in multiple publications and conference presentations, as well as a CHHS Dean’s Fellowship. Andy’s impact doesn’t stop there — as a lead instructor and mentor, he inspires students with his engaging teaching style and dedication to their growth. He’s also a committed community leader, volunteering with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and supporting local research events.

Brett’s contributions to research, mentorship, and community engagement are exceptional. As the director of the Cloud Family Rehabilitation and Mobility Lab, which was recently named with a philanthropic gift, Brett has an advanced understanding of movement patterns in individuals with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, developing rehabilitative strategies that improve mobility and quality of life. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications and millions in research funding, his work has earned international recognition. Beyond research, Brett’s mentorship has guided countless students to achieve remarkable success. His dedication to both science and student growth makes him truly deserving of this award.

Sarah Stotz, Food Science and Human Nutrition
Sarah’s research is transforming the field of diabetes nutrition education. Her groundbreaking work focuses on improving health outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native communities, populations that face some of the highest rates of diabetes in the U.S. Through trust-building and collaboration, Sarah’s research has earned national recognition, with prestigious funding from the NIH and the American Diabetes Association. In addition to her impactful research, Sarah’s dedication to mentoring the next generation of scientists is remarkable. We celebrate her passion for improving lives through research and education.

The Non-Tenure-Track Faculty/AP Scholarly Excellence Award recognizes a non-tenure-track faculty member on a Contract or Continuing appointment or an Administrative Professional with a research appointment for outstanding contributions in activities such as original and theoretical research, creative works, model development, research synthesis, policy research, and other forms of scholarly endeavor during their period of appointment in CHHS.
Tiffany Lipsey, Health and Exercise Science
For over 20 years, Tiffany has combined research, teaching, and service to advance firefighter health and safety. Her leadership in the Heart Disease Prevention Program has led to life-saving screenings for thousands of firefighters across Colorado. With nearly $4.3 million in research funding, national committee service, and mentoring future health professionals, she is a powerful force for change and good health. Tiffany’s work bridges science and practice, making communities safer.
Outstanding Engagement Award - Lauren Shomaker, Human Development and Family Studies
The Outstanding Engagement Award is given to a faculty member, administrative professional member, or CHHS faculty/admin pro-based program team, with five or more years of experience in the College, who exemplifies the land-grant mission of developing and promoting partnerships, particularly in service to high-needs communities, and collaborations between campus and external partners for the benefit of the community, state, nation, and/or world.

As a researcher and advocate, she has worked tirelessly to address health disparities, particularly among Latinx and Native American communities. Her groundbreaking “Health Without Barriers” program, developed through deep community partnerships, is transforming adolescent health by integrating culturally tailored lifestyle interventions. Through mentorship, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to health equity, Lauren has empowered families and shaped policies that improve lives. Her work exemplifies the power of research-driven community impact.

A tireless advocate for equity, she fosters inclusion through mentorship, policy work, and transformative workshops. Her leadership and dedication inspire positive change, making CSU a more inclusive community. Her efforts and dedication are shaping the future of occupational therapy and empowering others to do the same.

This award was created to recognize those individuals who have supported the college in extraordinary ways.
Matt Tillman, Chief of Staff, Colorado State University Office of the President
Since arriving six years ago, Matt has been instrumental in developing a groundbreaking ROTC training program that is now a model nationwide. His leadership has created invaluable opportunities for Health and Exercise Science students, from hands-on training to research and internships. Beyond academics, he has enriched CSU traditions, introducing the Comatose cannon as the CSU Homecoming 5K starting gun, now a beloved tradition. As President Parsons’ Chief of Staff, Matt is a steady presence during a time of many changes on campus.

Marc is a leader whose dedication and calm presence keep our campus community safe. While his work often happens behind the scenes, his impact is immeasurable.
In numerous challenging situations, Marc’s simple yet powerful promise that “I’ve got this. I promise, I’ve got this” allows students, families, and faculty to focus on what they need to focus on or celebrate, knowing they are in calm and capable hands.

This award was created to recognize those individuals who have supported the college in extraordinary ways.
Lisa Sinclair (B.S., ’00), Founder, Green Events
Lisa’s Ram Pride is strong as a two-time alumna of CSU. She applied her degrees from the Department of Health and Exercise Science and her MBA with her company, Green Events, which produces most of the major running races in Northern Colorado. Lisa’s focus on sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact and expand reach to the running community attracted the attention of the CSU Homecoming 5K in 2023. Her expertise over the past two years added new levels of professionalism, efficiency, participation, and fundraising success to the 44-year history. Last year, the race again exceeded expectations with more than 1,600 participants, smooth operations, happy sponsors, and happy homecoming memories for all!
College of Health and Human Sciences Emerging Leader Alumna Award - Savanah Elliott Guy
This award recognizes recent graduates of the College for accomplishments made in the areas of career, service, or volunteer efforts that have brought honor to the individual and the College/University.
Savanah Elliott Guy, B.S., nutrition and food science, ’19
Savanah earned her B.S. in nutrition and food science in 2019. While at CSU, she was a leader on the Dean’s Leadership Council and contributed to research in the department. Shortly after graduating, she embarked on a new adventure in Anchorage, Alaska, for her dietetic internship focused on Alaska Native cultures and healthcare delivery systems. Now a Registered Dietitian, Savanah works with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, promoting wellness and balanced diets that incorporate Traditional Alaska Native foods. Her outreach, which includes community education and cooking demonstrations for rural villages, exemplifies the power of service and knowledge in fostering healthier communities.

Outstanding Alumna Award - Christy Grosboll
This award honors outstanding alumni from the College who, through their distinguished careers and service to the university, state, nation, or world, have brought honor to Colorado State University and themselves.
Christy Grosboll, B.S., human development and family studies, ’94
Since earning her bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies in 1994, Christy’s dedication and compassion have touched countless lives through her career and service. Over the past two decades, she has served families in their most challenging moments as a child life specialist. In this role, she provides bereavement and grief support to children and young adults, helping them navigate trauma with resilience and care.
Beyond her clinical work, Christy is executive director and co-founder of Project Sol Flower, a nonprofit dedicated to fulfilling bucket-list dreams for young adults facing terminal illness. Her passion also extends to educating the next generation, sharing her expertise with CSU students in HDFS Death, Dying, and Grief classes.

Over the past four decades, this dynamic duo has modeled Ram Pride. Building on their degrees in physical education, Paul and Ande have contributed to countless initiatives that have enriched the lives of students, faculty, and the broader Fort Collins community. Their unwavering commitment to healthy lifestyles and education has strengthened connections, fostered growth, and created opportunities that will resonate for generations to come. CSU student-athletes regularly hear them cheering from the sidelines. They engage through volunteering and gifts to many Athletics funds, the Kay Schaake Memorial Scholarship in honor of their mentor, and the new Paul and Ande Havenar Scholarship Endowment for health and exercise science.

John is a retired educator and athletics coach whose community engagement has included volunteer service for Catholic Charities, United Way of Weld County, Northern Colorado International Refugee Center, and our CHHS Executive Leadership Council. John has profoundly touched so many lives with his positive energy, insight, laughter, intellectual curiosity, and phenomenal support. John has inspired students, faculty, alumni, and friends. John mentors, teaches, and celebrates lifelong learning and growth. His resilience, grit, and determination to live life to its fullest while supporting those around him with abundance embody the spirit the College strives to instill in our students.

The Spirit of CHHS Award is a discretionary award given by the Dean to someone who has demonstrated extraordinary passion, dedication, leadership, and inspiration in support of our College’s mission.
Stephanie Ouren, Dean’s Office
Since 2006, Stephanie has fueled the College’s research engine. From scouring funding opportunities and packaging final proposals, to interfacing with CSU’s Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Office of Sponsored Programs and relationship building with partner institutions, Stephanie has worked tirelessly to advance the research mission of the College. Her deep knowledge of the College’s research activity, and her creativity, focus, and expertise empower faculty to focus on the science. And her calm and positivity have put many at ease while navigating proposal and post-award details. Here’s a snapshot of Stephanie’s impact: in the past 5 years, she helped CHHS researchers submit $400 million in proposals, and research expenditures grew 33% to $65 million. We estimate Stephanie has supported nearly $1 billion in proposals over her nearly two decades of outstanding service to our college.
