All CM, Pre-CM, and graduate students must review and abide by the Student Code of Conduct for Recruiting prior to participating in any recruiting activities, including applying, interviewing, accepting, and declining offers.
As with CSU Career Services, the CM Phelps Placement Office provides CM students and alumni with helpful resources, services, and technology toward executing a successful employment search. Both are committed to complying with the ethical standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers and expect students and employers to be honest and professional in the job and internship process. To maintain the outstanding reputation of the CM Department and Colorado State University, students and alumni must agree to the following terms:
- Present abilities, qualifications, interests, and credentials honestly and accurately. Any job search documents and profile information (including, but not limited to GPA, degree, graduation date, participation in clubs, teams, and CM Cares) provided to an employer, university or other academic or professional institution in a written, oral, or indirect manner must be truthful and accurate. Any deliberate misrepresentation, including but not limited to changing profile information to gain access to jobs, may result in being disqualified from using the CM Placement Office’s career services.
- Keep all interview appointments. If a scheduled campus interview is missed without advanced notification, it is considered a “no-show”. No-shows must meet with the Placement Office to discuss their situation and, depending on the severity, may lose access to services from the Placement Office, including but not limited to the entrance to the CM Career Fair and on-campus interviews. In the case of an emergency situation, notify the Placement Office and/or the CM Front Office directly as soon as possible. Each situation will be reviewed and documentation may be requested. If a cancellation is made less than 24 hours in advance, a letter of apology must be written to the employer and further on-campus interviews will be revoked until a copy of the letter is provided to the Placement Office.
- Notify employers of acceptance or rejection of offers by the deadline discussed with the recruiter. If the deadline for acceptance or rejection seems too short or places undue pressure, contact the Placement Office to discuss the situation. Per the Employer Code of Conduct for Recruiting, we request that all employers give students a minimum of two weeks to respond.
- Honor accepted offer and discontinue interviewing upon providing verbal or written acceptance. Once an offer has been accepted, it is expected that students/alumnus will cancel all remaining interviews by contacting the Placement Office and recruiters, discontinue their search, and decline any additional interview invitations. If any concerns about an offer arise, contact the Placement Office to discuss the situation.
- Students and alumni who violate these principles of ethical conduct will need to meet with the Placement Office to discuss the situation and, depending on the severity, could lose career service privileges, including access to the CMJobs website, participating in on-campus interviews, attending career fairs and being included in the Senior Resume publication. Severe cases could also result in a report to Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services.
