Serving Children since 1929

The Early Childhood Center has been existence as a laboratory school since 1929. Housed in CSU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the ECC is fully integrated in the wider CSU and Fort Collins communities. As a Reggio Emilia-inspired school, the ECC provides an emergent approach to educating children that is play-based and child-directed. This approach strives to develop a learning community committed to collaboration among parents, children, and teachers.

The ECC Annual Reports provide a “snapshot in time” history of the many engaging activities at the ECC ranging from a wonderful celebration of our 90th anniversary in 2019, to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We hope you enjoy learning more about the ECC!

Annual Report 2019

2019 was an exciting year of celebration as the ECC marked it’s 90th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Washington School, the building where the ECC has been housed since 2013. Additionally, a generous donor gift resulted in an exciting renovation of our space to provide a new library for children.
