OT Knowledge Exchange Keynote Speaker Antoine L. Bailliard, Ph.D.
2021 Virtual Keynote Speaker Dr. Antoine Bailliard, PhD, OTR/L, Associate Professor of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is a research fellow at the Community Outcomes Research and Evaluation Center within the North Carolina Psychiatric Research Center and is a consultant and trainer for the Institute for Best Practices at the Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health at UNC-CH.
Dr. Bailliard’s research and clinical practice focus on enhancing the quality of life, community integration, and participation of marginalized populations such as adults with mental illness and migrant groups. As an occupational therapist, he has worked in inpatient and community psychiatry.
Using participatory research methods, Dr. Bailliard has studied the relationship between the embodiment of sensory experiences, mental health, and participation in meaningful activity. Dr. Bailliard is currently a Co-Project Director on HomeLink – a 5-year project funded by a $2.4 million grant from SAMHSA. HomeLink is an innovative treatment model that provides assertive outreach and supports to community-dwelling adults with serious mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Dr. Bailliard is also collaborating with UNC-CH’s School of Social Work, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and the University of California Los Angeles in the design and expansion of Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement teams to serve the most vulnerable homeless with severe psychiatric illness across Los Angeles County.
