2023-2024 Virtual Senior Show

This virtual show features the Interior Architecture and Design capstone projects. The large-scale 100,000 sq. ft. projects represent research-based design, illustrating students’ competency in designing complex, large-scale interior environments and practicing through varied discussions with attention to contemporary social and cultural issues and paradigms facing the profession.

Biome

Biome is a luxury travel hostel inspired by the surrounding mountain ecosystem. Travelers of all types will live, learn, and flourish within the hostel. A natural color scheme and a mix of private and public spaces will balance the environment, fortifying the feelings of safety, connection, and inclusivity.

 

Children’s Mind Hospital

Children’s Mind Hospital is a critical access hospital that will create a safe space for families to come and search for the services they need in a mountain region with limited resources. The hospital will evoke a sense of hope and trust between the users.

Timberline K-8 School

Adjacent to a High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, the groundbreaking Timberline K-8 School champions educational innovation. Its inventive design prioritizes flexibility, featuring learning commons, sensory areas, mental health offices, and a distinctive indoor play zone. Embracing the concept of imaging the unknown, it nurtures creativity

Montrose Mountain Airport

Montrose Mountain Airport is a redesign of the current airport to help foster better community involvement. It has a more functional layout with wayfinding techniques. The growing love of skiing and the increase in tourist attractions makes the Montrose Mountain Airport a hub for the western slope.

Orenda Wellness Recovery Center

Desert Vitality is a wellness facility located in Austin, Texas that assists young women through their eating disorder recovery process. Inspired by the beautiful Antelope Canyon the facility provides a nurturing space where residents and visitors can feel supported through their personal recovery journey.

 

 

Huaka’i

Huaka’i, located in Honolulu, is a six-story multi-purpose building filled with affordable housing units, a counseling center, job coaching, a daycare center, and a small-scale market space. This building’s purpose is to serve the people of Honolulu and aid them through any struggles they may be facing.

Komorebi Wellness Center 

The Komorebi Wellness Center addresses the issues of mental health stigma and lack of access. This center will unite neurodiverse and neurotypical individuals to establish a space centered on unity and understanding. Providing users with a variety of wellness activities that they can use to improve their health.

 

Serenity Wellness Center 

Serenity Wellness Center is a supportive community for young adults with autism. This care facility was designed for the needs of these individuals where they can go during the day to gain supportive resources, socialize with others, and even have an opportunity to work and live on site.

Healing Center for Humanity

The driving purpose of The Healing Center for Humanity is to provide all, including underserved populations, access to services such as therapy, counseling, healthcare, well-being, and a place of support to provide a safe space for healing and a healthier society.

Olympia Training Facility

Olympia Training is an all-inclusive, bodybuilding training and competition space. Both professional and amateur athletes will use the space to further their bodybuilding careers in a supportive community with one another, while also giving back to the community by offering in-house nutrition and training classes.

University School of Colorado

The University School of Colorado is a small, tight-knit school in Colorado Springs that is currently settled in over 100-year-old buildings. Macy wanted to design a space that reflects the school spirit, providing active learning space, community space, and an overall healthy environment.

Timeless Ties Memory Care Facility

Timeless Ties Memory Care facility is located in Lafayette Colorado. This facility allows residents to hold onto some of their individuality while they navigate a new way of life. Shops, storefront businesses, and areas for socializing and activities are included onsite for residents to interact with safely and independently.

Phileo Elementary School 

Phileo Elementary School strives to not only accommodate all children, but to welcome, invite, and integrate children with physical and mental disabilities. It celebrates their differences while fostering friendship, and eliminates stigmas against people with disabilities.

 

Grays Peak Shelter

Located in Denver, Colorado, Grays Peak Shelter is a homeless shelter for people and animals. Environments within the shelter aid in the mental and physical well-being of all users. Short-term and long-term housing is provided as well as community spaces for users to create a sense of belonging and identity.

Prosper Fitness Facility

In Lakewood, Colorado, Prosper Fitness addresses fitness barriers, combatting intimidation, gender-based layouts, motivation, and accessibility issues, aiming to be inclusive. Embracing universal design principles, it fosters a welcoming atmosphere, neutral aesthetics, and promotes physical and mental well-being. Inspired by progress, it aspires to motivate and celebrate individual advancement.

Dawn Wellness Center and Spa

The Dawn Wellness Center and Spa, targeted towards adults ages 60+, provides a safe and supportive space for a holistic approach to healthy aging. At the core of this design is the idea that even as we age, it is never too late to prioritize our physical and mental well-being.

Rimrock Revival 

Rimrock Revival aspires to provide solace and support for those battling cancer. Boasting a distinctive blend of treatment spaces, long-term comfort rooms, and an exclusive hotel wing, this sanctuary ensures patients and their loved ones can share meaningful moments in a secure and pristine refuge.

Hello Mall 

Hello Mall is a mall reimagined to fit modern needs. The program of a traditional mall is flipped, by making socialization the primary goal and retail the secondary. Hello Mall seeks to encourage connectivity and engagement through experiential design.

Intertidal

The Intertidal located in La Jolla, California on the campus of Scripps Oceanography Institute is a multi-purpose project with an ocean research program integrated with a hotel to accommodate educational and vocational users. The Intertidal’s goal is to bring awareness about the harm of ocean pollution and overfishing.

Fort Collins Independent Living

This senior living facility is designed as an enriched environment to provide mental, physical, and social stimulation that reduces the likelihood of cognitive decline for residents. This project encourages the use of thoughtful interior design practices, in addition to various amenities, for the health and happiness of all users.

Ka Rehabilitation Center 

Ka Rehabilitation Center aims to provide a safe, healing space for patients recovering from an amputation. This facility offers operating rooms, physical therapy, counseling, amenities, and living units for patients and their families dealing with this huge change. Ka strives to support those on the journey to recovery.

Links Train Station

The Links Train Station provides a safe, inclusive, and sustainable space that encourages the use of public transportation in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and make transportation more accessible. The design features indoor green spaces and a community center to support the users in their day to day activities.

NaturArt Shopping Center

NaturArt transforms a disused factory into a pioneering shopping center. Blurring the boundaries between commerce, nature, and art is the aim of the project, offering visitors a novel visual encounter that defies traditional distinctions, creating a landmark in Shenzhen that transcends the ordinary.

Kittredge Residences

Revitalizing the historic Kittredge Building on 16th Street, this project addresses Denver’s high nightly accommodation cost by transforming it into an affordable short-term rental resort. Pioneering this concept in hospitality, the initiative aims to inspire wider accessibility and affordability, catering to diverse travelers, such as business professionals and travel nurses.

19th Hole

The 19th Hole is a mixed-use space located in Phoenix, Arizona. The entire space is inspired by golf. The space fills two buildings. Building one holds the social spaces and building two is a hotel. There are spaces such as golf simulators, indoor putt-putt, a restaurant, fitness, spa, etc.

Monarch Women’s Center

The Monarch Women’s Center located in Fort Collins, Colorado is a multi-purpose project that provides a variety of resources for women and uses open community spaces to inspire community involvement. Through user-centered design, the Monarch Women’s Center is a safe space for all women

 

Mindful Mindset 

Mindful Mindset is a multipurpose facility, centered around an in and out patient mental health facility in Denver, Colorado. With heavy inspiration from biophilia, the facility focuses on the health and well-being of its occupants from patients to employees.

Inner Vibrancy Center  

The primary goal of the Inner Vibrancy Center (IVC) is to provide compassionate, holistic care for survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) while providing them with a safe home environment that encourages agency and equity through Trauma Informed Design principles (TDI).

 

Theseus Inclusive Hotel

Inclusive design goes beyond compliance, offering versatile spaces benefiting diverse individuals—a principle known as “The Curb-Cut Effect.” The Theseus Inclusive Hotel in downtown Chicago leverages this synergy between accessibility and design, transforming spaces into flexible work-leisure hubs, and adapting to evolving work-travel dynamics.

Serene Solutions

Serene Solutions in Loveland, CO is a multi-purpose facility dedicated to providing housing and resources to adolescents with psychiatric and behavioral issues. The facility focuses on naturopathic healing but recognizes the need for medical intervention at times. Users may live in the facility, or participate in day programs/activities.

Continuum Resources

Continuum Resources Special Needs and Study Center is a building that is an extension of the nearby K-12 school district in Fort Collins. This building proposes a solution for the social disconnect between students and their peers as well as a way for the students to feel supported.

Sober Support Center 

The Sober Support Center is an all-encompassed sober living space, a space for every step of alcoholic recovery. This is meant to be a place for anyone to heal, whether they need a full recovery transformation, working through their recovery, or are curious about cutting alcohol or supporting a friend.

Mariposa Hotel

The Mariposa, located in Chicago, Illinois, is a boutique hotel that strives to blend the knowledge of art, fashion, & textiles. As fashion trends & styles are always evolving, it is important for users to understand the artistic expressionism within the fashion industry, so they can appreciate what once was.

Simply Bare

Focused on mental health support systems, Simply Bare: A Wellness Community shifts design’s focus beyond aesthetics, prioritizing emotional, mental, and physical user support. Creating a transitional environment for those leaving mental health facilities, it aids their reintegration into reality. Embracing hospitality and residential design, it offers a safe, biophilic space.

The Cove

Welcome to The Cove. A commercial mental health and wellness center located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Tailored for local youth, the project’s mission is to dismantle mental health stigmas by fostering a safe, inclusive environment, to cultivate an open dialogue surrounding mental well-being.

Synergy

A large issue within the Denver area is the homeless population. Therefore to help lower the numbers, a multi-purpose building will be built to provide work and living. The first few levels will be work spaces which helps them earn to stay within the upper floor apartment levels.

Bloom Elementary 

Bloom Elementary is a kindergarten through 5th-grade school with a STEAM curriculum. The school values innovation, creativity, and community and through the design, Vicki was able to create flexible environments to adapt to students changing needs.

Mountain Youth Center 

This project is the Mountain Youth Center, a youth center and mental health resource located in Gypsum Colorado. This facility provides access to mental health, school, and family resources for K-12 youth along the I-70 corridor, bringing a more accessible and barrier-free approach to these types of resources.

Synergy of Meow Wolf

Meow Wolf’s Synergy pioneers an innovative solution to accessibility and sustainability in immersive museums. The transformative synergy of access, art, and community inspires this project. This proof of concept catalyzes change and encourages museums to prioritize art, universal design, and sustainability, fostering inclusive, integrated, and healthy creative communities.

Sage & Sun

Sage & Sun is a senior center in Fort Collins, designed to instill pride in the stage of life the elderly are in. It is designed to encourage intergenerational interaction and the exchange of unique wisdom that all generations hold. It includes activities ranging from craft classrooms to educational kitchens.

Hang Up & Out

Hang Up & Out is located in Denver, CO, this multi-use space is open to the public to encourage face-to-face interactions and connection. Restaurants, bars, game areas, and activity spaces will encourage people to put their phones away and enjoy each other’s company.

Restored Relief

Restored Relief, a heartfelt project in Highlands Ranch, CO, caters to families with children undergoing cancer treatment. Close to the CMNH South campus, this multi-use facility is a home-away-from-home, including a cafe, restaurant, teen center, daycare, and residential units—a sanctuary fostering hope and healing for families nationwide.

 

Cerebrum Escape Facility

Cerebrum Escape Facility, located in Fort Collins, is a multi-purpose building that is open to the public and is a resource for those who have experienced head trauma and injuries. This establishment aims to create a fun and unique environment for cognitive growth through escape rooms and a game cafe.

Colorado Therapy and Education Center 

The Colorado Therapy and Education Center serves people aged 2 to 18 years old who have developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families. Located in Denver, Colorado, the facility helps to address the nationwide lack of educational and mental health resources for the special needs community.

First Avenue Hotel

The First Avenue Hotel is a boutique hotel inspired by Denver’s rich art and design culture. The project goal is to restore the site into the historic First Avenue Hotel, established in 1907, for cultural and historical preservation. It features a restaurant, bar, and coffee shop as tenants.

Papillon Eating Disorder Wellness and Recovery Center

Papillon Eating Disorder Wellness and Recovery Center aims to help individuals struggling with disordered eating patterns with an individualized approach to holistic healing. Located in Northglenn, Colorado, Papillon positively impacts the community by taking a new approach to healing and creating a safe environment for all users including staff and patients.

Lifeline Childhood Cancer Rehab & Activity Center

Lifeline prioritizes a haven for healing and safety and caters to the unique needs of those with a weakened immunity. The design focuses on holistic well-being, aims to support diverse coping mechanisms for stress and provides therapies and activities for children battling cancer and their families.
