Celebrating Milestones and New Spaces

Dear ECC Family and Friends,
Our year in review for 2019 includes an exciting milestone – we celebrated the 90th anniversary of the ECC’s existence, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Washington School Building, our location since 2013. It’s hard to believe, but the CSU laboratory school has existed in various forms since 1929. The physical location may have changed over the years, but the mission has remained the same since our inception – we partner with families to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate care to children, while training CSU students and supporting innovative research in child development.
That’s why we were excited in 2019 to celebrate two historic milestones. The histories of two important Fort Collins institutions merged in 2013 when CSU purchased the Washington School building from Poudre School District and renovated it to become the ECC’s new home. This provided us with more space for an exciting expansion of the ECC’s mission, as we added infant and toddler care and expanded the number of preschool classrooms from two to four.
2019 provided us with the opportunity to further renovate space at the ECC to better serve staff, children, and families. The Freeberg Family Library and Parent Resource Center was made possible by a gift from the Don & Lorraine Freeberg Foundation. We were thrilled to have Dan (B.S., agricultural business, ’71) and Nancy (B.S., home economics education, ’72) Freeberg and their daughter Amanda Donovan, who serves as executive director of the Don & Lorraine Freeberg Foundation, visit CSU for a ribbon cutting and celebration of their giving. Read more about this exciting gift and the partnership with interior architecture and design students that transformed the space in the ECC.
Warmly,
Karen Rattenborg, Ph.D.
