Volunteer with HABIC

You and your animal share the ability to improve the life of someone in need. HABIC Volunteer Teams gain knowledge on the human-animal bond, develop skills around animal behavior and training, and work with their pets as HABIC-certified therapy animals.

HABIC trains and supports volunteer animal therapy teams who subsequently help build trust, strengthen relationships, and facilitate the therapeutic process in hospitals, schools, assisted living facilities, and other community settings across Northern Colorado.

HABIC offers courses and certificates, including a graduate certificate, through Colorado State University to equip working professionals with an understanding of the science behind human-animal interactions and how to leverage the human-animal bond to help populations they serve.

HABIC advances research on human–animal interactions to improve human health and wellbeing. Within HABIC, the RISE HAI lab leads equity-driven research on how the human–animal bond intersects with social contexts, health disparities, and community resilience.
