10 Tips for Success from HDFS Students
- Get to know faculty! Build relationships with your professors and learn more about their research areas because they are a great resource to you on your path to graduation and career.
- Do informational interviews with faculty and professionals in the community to gain career awareness and tips to achieve your career goals.
- Research possible careers in HDFS in the Forms and Handouts section of this website, request career advising from faculty, and utilize various CSU Career Center Resources.
- Get involved! There are so many student organizations, clubs, and extracurricular activities at CSU! Getting involved will help you network with people for job and internship opportunities and it will help you meet people with shared interests.
- Be proactive in your education and your quest for a career. Seek out opportunities that will be beneficial to you.
- Meet with an adviser at least once per year, and go to the Career Center. Your adviser and the career counselors are there to assist you as you are planning your future!
- Read the messages sent out through the HDFS Advising Portal in Canvas! You may be missing out on important meetings and information if you don’t at least glance over each announcement!
- Don’t procrastinate!
- Go to class.
- Have fun.

Cultural Resource Centers at CSU
Cultural Resource Centers at CSU support all students in a variety of ways and provide opportunities to successfully participate in, and contribute to, the diverse campus environment. While each office listed may emphasize a specific segment of the student body, services, and programs are available to benefit all students at CSU. The Counseling and Career Development master’s degree trains future counselors. We are seeking client volunteers for the fall and spring semesters. Counseling is free of charge.
