The RISE HAI Lab at HABIC is offering free access to the CARE REDI Learning Series (Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity) to support volunteers in building equity-centered, pet-inclusive practice across their work with people and animals.
Why?
Most people share their lives with companion animals—relationships that influence wellbeing, daily choices, and access to support and services. For volunteers, understanding these connections can strengthen relationships, increase cultural humility, and improve the impact of our work with individuals, families, and communities.
What will volunteers learn?
These self-paced online courses explore racial equity, belonging, and inclusion across animal welfare, veterinary medicine, and community care. The content is relevant for volunteers in any role and offers practical insights for working thoughtfully and inclusively with people and their animals.
Why your participation matters
The goal is not simply to complete modules, but to give HABIC volunteers an opportunity to engage with equity-centered, pet-inclusive practice and to share feedback based on real-world volunteer experience. Volunteer perspectives can help inform how these materials are used in training, practice, and future programming.
How to participate
Volunteers may complete any of the three courses (Bronze, Copper, or VetREDI) and are encouraged to share brief reflections or feedback with the HABIC team (contact information below).
Access is available through September 30, 2026.
