Have CCD Students Join Your Practice

Our partner agencies allow our internship students to integrate their counseling skills, knowledge, and professional disposition with diverse clientele and communities. In-kind, sites often speak to the enhanced morale, infusion of a new perspective, and additional capacity that can come with hosting an internship. Before students can complete any hours at a site, the site must be vetted and approved by the CCD program to ensure that program and accreditation requirements are met. This page hosts essential information regarding the approval process for prospective sites/ site supervisors.
Benefits of Supervising CCD Interns

- Interns at a site may bring positive feedback on present functioning procedures and create new improvement ideas.
- Interns may increase the service capabilities of the organization.
- Site supervision is a potential pathway to give back to the helping professions.
- Enhance and hone clinical supervision skills.
- The communication and interaction between the site and the Counseling and Career Development program can be increased and mutually productive.
- Site supervisors can receive elective graduate credit from Colorado State University for their work with an intern. One graduate credit per semester is provided per intern averaging 20 hours/week.
Overview of Required Steps
Our program and national accreditation requirements require that sites and site supervisors meet specific requirements. All prospective internship sites must undergo a review of the site AND a review of at least one qualified site supervisor. Prospective sites that do not meet either the internship site requirements OR the qualified site supervisor requirements cannot be approved.
While designated an approved internship site, new site supervisors must be reviewed and approved before they can be the direct supervisor of a CCD counseling intern.
Review Process for Internship Site
Step 1: Review Fieldwork Information
Our program believes strongly in informed consent regarding our fieldwork processes. Due to this, we request that interested parties start by reviewing the following documents and information:
- CCD Internship Manual
- Standard Deadlines – Intern Search Phase
- Initial Site Supervisor Review Form
- Please refer to the “Minimum Requirements for Site Supervisor” heading below or the internship manual regarding minimum requirements for site supervisors.
- Initial Site Supervisor Review – Resume/CV Upload
Step 2: Initial meeting with CCD Fieldwork Coordinator
After these documents have been reviewed, we welcome you to book an initial meeting with the CCD fieldwork coordinator here. During this initial meeting, we welcome addressing any questions from the documents you reviewed, hear about your interest in becoming an approved internship site, and sharing more about the Counseling and Career Development program and our national accreditation requirements for internship sites.
Step 3: Complete MOU
After the initial meeting (and any subsequent meetings as needed), if both parties wish to continue with the internship review process, we will request that a staff member at your organization with signature authority review and sign the CSU CHHS Internship MOU, which will be shared during the initial meeting with the CCD Fieldwork Coordinator.
