What is Fieldwork Experience?

“Fieldwork experience” refers to what is commonly known as practicum and internships. Counseling students utilize their fieldwork experiences to fulfill requirements as a part of both our national Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs accreditation and degree program requirements. These experiences allow students to explore areas of practice within their chosen specialization: career counseling, school counseling, or clinical mental health counseling.
In their field placements, CCD students complete at least 100 hours during their practicum experiences and 600 hours during their internship experiences. Practicum placement is completed within the Counseling and Career Development Training and Research Clinic in the Education Building on the main campus. The supervised internship experience provides valuable learning opportunities at an approved community agency, organization, or school that aligns with the student’s chosen specialization area.
