Principal Licensure M.Ed. in Education and Human Resource Studies - Education Sciences Specialization

Earn your principal license, with the option to earn a master’s degree at the same time!

Gain a strong foundation in pedagogy and effective theories of leadership – knowledge you’ll be able to immediately apply to your work.

You’ll build a portfolio that reflects Colorado’s principal quality standards. Showcase your understanding of theory, your research, and your leadership skills to future employers.

Our expert faculty will guide you through both academic coursework and a 300-hour internship experience. The internship gives you the opportunity to apply theory and your research in real-world environments. Placement may be in your current school district.

Two Options to Choose From

Principal License Only

Already hold a master’s degree? Earn your principal license in three semesters. This option is 24 credits, beginning in the summer and ending in the spring.

M.Ed., Plus Principal License

Want a master’s degree? Earn your degree and principal license in four semesters. This option is 33 credits, beginning and ending during the summer.

You can earn your principal license, with or without the master’s degree, in as little as one year.

Keep Working

Regardless of the option you choose, the program is designed to be completed while you’re working full-time. Coursework is delivered in a hybrid format combining online and in-classroom components.

Online Coursework

Most courses are online as recorded lectures, along with interactive sessions during which you’ll communicate with faculty and peers in real-time, virtual discussions.

In-Person Coursework

You’ll attend a three-week summer course in a classroom in northern Colorado, and a weekend-long, in-person capstone course once before graduating.

Strong Peer Network

This program is a cohort model, offering support, collaboration, and networking opportunities with your peers.
