Assistantship Opportunities

For students in the on-campus program, graduate assistantships provide you the opportunity to combine theory and practice while offering financial assistance that includes remission of tuition and a stipend. At 20-25 hours per week, these assistantships allow you to focus on academic coursework and take advantage of other professional opportunities. These may include positions in Housing and Dining Services, Off-Campus Life, Career Center, and Student Leadership, Involvement, and Civic Engagement. Assistantships are offered for a 9- to 10-month period during the academic year (August/September-May). Some positions require summer employment, which will be compensated through a separate contract and remuneration. More information about open assistantships will be provided to program applicants.
Practicum Opportunities

Practicum opportunities allow students to hone their skills in a variety of areas beyond students’ everyday work experiences. Students in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program are required to complete an unpaid 60-hour, 2-credit practicum experience during their time in the program. Past examples of practicum opportunities include working with Semester at Sea, experience with student advising, and being a teaching assistant for an online course. Opportunities through the National Orientation Directors Association and Association of College and University Housing Officers – International are also eligible practicum opportunities during the summer at other institutions.
The Journal of Student Affairs

The Journal of Student Affairs is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal produced each year by graduate students in the Colorado State University Student Affairs in Higher Education program. The seven-member Editorial Board and additional student affairs scholars work together over the course of the year to review submissions from across the globe in the interest of furthering scholarship in the student affairs profession. In print since 1992, the Journal of Student Affairs is dedicated to a legacy of promoting scholarly work and diverse perspectives in the field of student affairs.
