About the SPOTR Lab
Relatively new to CSU OT, the Sensory integration, Play, and Occupational Therapy Research (SPOTR) Lab focuses on play and participation for all children, support for their families, and development of a richer understanding of the neuroscience underpinning sensory integrative processes. Differences in how individuals process sensory information from people and things in the environment, as well as those generated from within the body, impact all aspects of life. For children this means play, having friends, learning, and being part of a family. We also know that when children have sensory integrative challenges it impacts the entire family. Further, sensory integrative challenges do not ‘go away’ with time and, for adults, sensory integrative challenges impact most aspects of life. Work in the SPOTR Lab will focus on these child, adult, and family challenges in sensory integration and the impact they have on everyday living.
Shelly J Lane, director of the SPOTR Lab, has conducted research on these and other topics for over 30 years.
