Do you strive to support the health and well-being of adults and older adults in your career? By 2030, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people will be aged 65 and older. With many adults leading healthier and longer lives, there is an increasing demand for well-trained individuals to work with adults and older adults in health-related settings.
In addition to being able to list this Certificate in Healthy Aging on your transcripts and resumes, you can also list the required experiential course (practicum, internship, or research experience) on your resume and describe it in job and graduate school applications.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between this certificate and the Gerontology Interdisciplinary Minor? Can I earn them both?
The Gerontology Interdisciplinary Minor (GIM) is similar in coursework but requires 21 credits instead of 13-15 credits. You may not earn both this certificate and the Gerontology Interdisciplinary Minor. Please meet with your HDFS advisor or the GIM coordinator to discuss your career goals and determine which program is best for you.
What will I learn?
You will acquire hands-on, real-world experience through an internship, practicum, or research experience that involves direct interaction with adults and older adults from different backgrounds, including career fields supporting aging-related services and policies.
What careers can this certificate prepare me for?
This certificate will help prepare you for careers in exercise science, health promotion, health care (such as administration, medicine, and social work practices), prevention and intervention science, rehabilitation (e.g., pre-physical, occupational, and speech therapy), adult education, and human services.
How do I declare the certificate?
Please complete the online minor/certificate declaration form to declare a minor or certificate in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. It may take 5-7 business days to process your request, so check your CSU email for an email from the Registrar’s Office asking you to approve the request to declare the certificate. You must approve the request for the declaration to be processed.
You should see the minor or certificate updated in Ramweb within a week of your approval.
