An Announcement from Health and Exercise Science Ending Noon Hour Services in Fall 2024
Hello all,
As many of you know, or have suspected, the Noon Hour program has been limping along for quite a while. Despite hard work by Kyle, and by Cameron before him, we have been running a considerable deficit for the entire 10 years I have been department head. I justified it by maintaining that we were providing the campus a valuable service and because I respected the 50+ year tradition – and yes, Brad has been coming for 50+ years. But as CSU budget forecasts look increasingly problematic, we have to make hard decisions about our priorities as an academic department, ensuring we fulfill the most important aspects of our mission. Continuing to prop up the Noon Hour program doesn’t rise to that standard. Raising rates, cutting laundry/clothing, etc. won’t close the gap enough to make it viable. In the words of the storied philosopher Coco Chanel; “Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door”.
Therefore, we are sorry to announce that the Noon Hour program will be discontinued following the upcoming summer semester. The Health and Exercise Science Department wants to thank you for your patronage and support and friendship for all these decades. You have fostered a great community over the years and we hope you continue to do so despite the ending of this program. We will have a celebratory event in May to thank everyone for your loyalty and support. Additionally, the summer semester will be free for all members as a thank you, however, there will be no clothing or laundry service.
There are some alternative options on campus to continue exercising and staying healthy, which I will outline below, of Adult Fitness and Campus Recreation. Adult Fitness is a similar program that also has members of the community, not just CSU employees. This program offers basketball courts, weightlifting and cardio equipment, and swimming and is open many more hours than Noon Hour. That info can be found below, along with the rates. This program is located on South College at the Glenn Morris Fieldhouse:
Adult Fitness Rates:
· $45/month – – – – Individual (under age 60)
· $40/month – – – – Senior (60 and older)

Commitment to campus will still pay 50% of the rate for eligible employees.
Adult Fitness Hours:

Campus Recreation located nearby to Moby is another option. If you would like to join Campus Recreation instead, they also have Commitment to Campus to pay 50% of the rates for eligible employees. Their rates can be found on their website.
Thank you again for everything. We hope to see you at the Noon Hour Celebration sometime in May (we will announce it when we have it figured out).
