Get the most out of skill building
Gaining career experience can take many forms often referred to as experiential learning. Approach gaining experience with curiosity and an open mind to try new things you may have never considered before. You can gain experience in areas with direct connections to fields you are interested in and in areas outside of your fields of interest. They are both valuable ways to learn about yourself and gain valuable skills you can apply to your future goals. Examples of experiential learning include internships, practicums, and on- or off-campus employment.
Internships
Internships are experiences that allow you to apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting, develop practical skills, and learn more about jobs and industries of interest.
On-Campus Employment
On-campus employment takes place at a CSU-affiliated worksite. It is flexible with class schedules and convenient as it is designed with students in mind. Students are hired as student-hourly or work-study employees. According to CSU data on work and success, working on campus is positively associated with persistence and graduation across all years that students are employed, compared to students who did not work during the same time period.
