Bennett Elementary
Construction Management students enrolled in CON580A2, Applied Sustainable Project Delivery, collaborated with students at Centennial High School to design and construct 12 xylophone stands for new instruments at Bennett Elementary School. The stands will help protect the instruments as well as raise them off the floor for easier playing and teaching.
The stands were constructed with sustainable features, including use of nontoxic materials, salvaged wood, beetle-killed pine, homemade coffee stain, and recycled screws. The stands were unveiled at CSU’s Earth Day Fair on April 18 and then presented to the students of Bennett Elementary on May 4 at a school assembly.
Collins Project
Carol Joy Collins is a survivor of the 1997 Spring Creek Flood in Fort Collins. She lived in the Johnson Center Mobile Home Park and hung on for her life as her trailer floated away in the flood waters. She has worked hard to rebuild her life and, in September 2011, she became a first-time home owner.
Every penny of her savings went into the purchase of her home, so she didn’t know what to do when she was informed that her covered porch did not meet Larimer County code. CM Cares is pleased to be able to help this terrific lady by demolishing her current porch and constructing one that meets code.
