Why Choose a DEXA Scan?
DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is the industry benchmark for body composition analysis, offering the most accurate measurements of fat mass, lean muscle, and overall body composition. It’s a valuable tool for a wide range of individuals—including athletes, older adults, and those pursuing fitness or health goals—by providing clear, region-specific data that helps guide training, nutrition, and lifestyle decisions.
The scan is fast, non-invasive, and performed by trained technicians, delivering you reliable insights to support more informed and personalized health strategies. Bone mineral density is not provided for this test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the DEXA scan use radiation?
Yes. DEXA scans use very low levels of radiation—much less than a standard X-ray (1/1000)—and are considered safe for most individuals. Learn more about radiation exposure risk on the HOLOGIC website.
Will I receive my results immediately?
Yes. A technician will first review your results to ensure accuracy, then will print and discuss your personal results. We will also provide you with a general data interpretation sheet so you can easily understand your results. Feel free to call the HPCRL if you have any questions regarding your results.
What should I wear?
Wear lightweight clothing, preferably athletic clothing without any metal.
