Residential Learning Community FAQs and answers
Beyond social connections with HES students, what are other benefits to the HES Residential Learning Community?
The HES community is conveniently located in Corbett Hall. You and your fellow first-year HES students will enjoy easy access across the street to:
- Learn in the HES Teaching Facility and Moby B Complex, where HES courses are offered.
- Study in the Moby computer lab.
- Connect with your adviser and faculty office hours in the Department of Health and Exercise Science.
- Work out and play at the Campus Recreation Center and Intramural Fields.
- Cheer on the Rams at volleyball and basketball games at Moby Arena.
How do I request the HES Learning Community?
You must be an incoming first-year student who has:
- Confirmed intent to attend CSU with your enrollment deposit or deferral.
- Declared the Health and Exercise Science major.
- Completed the New Student Housing Application, which opens in January for Fall, and in September for Spring.
- Completed the Learning Communities application and select the HES Community.
What about roommates?
If you’ve already selected a roommate, and they are also a declared Health and Exercise Science major, you should both follow the steps above to request the HES Learning Community.
If you haven’t already selected a roommate, you can still follow the steps above to request the HES Learning Community. If you’re accepted, we’ll connect you with another HES major.
If you’ve selected a roommate who is NOT a HES major, you can live elsewhere with them and still connect with other HES students through clubs, classes, labs, and department events.
What courses do students take together in the HES Learning Community?
If you choose to live in the HES Community, in the fall, you will take HES 145 – Health and Wellness together with other students in the community as a cluster. In the spring, you will take HES 202 – Introduction to Exercise Physiology and/or HES 207 – Anatomical Kinesiology .
