The BRAVE Team

Lab Leadership

Director: Lyndsey DuBose, Ph.D.

Lyndsey DuBose, Ph.D., joined the Department of Health and Exercise in 2024. Her work uses a variety of translational approaches to study the influence of sex-specific risk factors on long-term heart and brain health, primarily in the context of women’s health.

Dr. DuBose received a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Texas at Austin (2012) and an M.S. (2015) and Ph.D. in Human Physiology from the University of Iowa. She completed her postdoctoral training (2020-2023) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, where she maintains a secondary Assistant Professor adjoint position. When not in the lab, she can probably be found skiing or hiking in the mountains, watching college sports, or excessively photographing her pets.

Savannah Mierau, MPH

Savannah earned a B.S. in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado-Boulder and a Master of Public Health in Applied Biostatistics from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

She is the lab coordinator for the BRAVE research lab. She supports the daily operations of the labs, manages research activities, and contributes to data organization and analysis.

Current Students

Kyle Kastrup, M.S. | Ph.D. student

Kyle earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Colorado State University prior to joining the lab.

As a doctoral student in the BRAVE Lab, Kyle is interested in studying the effects of cardiovascular health on brain aging, flow mechanics of cerebral arteries, and sex differences in neurovascular coupling.

Emma Schlact, B.S. | M.S. student

Emma is a master’s student in the BRAVE lab working on the ENDO-BRAVE study. Emma received an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology from Northern Arizona University (2024), where she worked on a research study focused on women’s health and menstrual migraines.

She enjoys riding horses, reading, and spending time with her cat in her free time!

Sophie Springfield, Medical student

Sophie earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Montana State University. She is currently pursuing an M.D. at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Fort Collins Branch, with the goal of becoming an Emergency Medicine Physician.

Her research focuses on the impact of nightshift work on autonomic function in women. When not in the lab, she enjoys spending time with her husband and poorly behaved dog in the mountains.

  1. The BRAVE Lab is not currently accepting postdoctoral fellows.

  3. For undergraduate or medical students interested in gaining research experience, please email Dr. DuBose if you meet the following criteria:
    1. You can commit to at least one year in the lab.
    2. You can work a minimum of six hours/week.
    3. You are a reliable, highly motivated individual who enjoys being a team player as well as taking ownership of your work.
