Pathways to Teaching Children Become an early childhood educator at CSU

Coming Fall 2027, the Elementary Education program will prepare future elementary school teachers (teaching K-6th grade) who are student-centered and asset-based, recognizing their students’ areas of expertise, experience, cultural knowledge, identities, brilliance, and wonderings about the world.

Designed to guide future educators in supporting their students’ mental health, as well as provide strategies for protecting their own mental health as they navigate the teaching profession, Elementary Education students will work alongside current teachers with expertise in the latest teaching strategies and gain over 800 hours of classroom experience during their time at CSU.

The Elementary Education program is only open to first-year students.

With classes focused on specific stages of child development and how family, community, and culture play a role, the Early Childhood Education with Teacher Licensure program grants the opportunity to learn how environmental and social factors affect physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children ages 0-8 (infants to 3rd grade).

In the first two years of the program, you will explore the inner workings of early childhood development in multiple contexts, while the last two years of the program focus on preparing you to become a well-rounded educator.

Pair teacher education classes with one of 16 eligible majors to gain expertise in both your desired content area and as an educator.

With a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with Teacher Licensure, you will gain the skills to help people make informed decisions about their well-being and relationships. From the classroom to the workforce, you can use the skills gained at Colorado State to support individuals and families in improving their overall quality of life.

The Early Childhood Professions concentration equips students for rewarding careers in early childhood education and beyond, preparing you to work with young children of all backgrounds and abilities in diverse settings, including educational environments and healthcare facilities.
