Level I Fieldwork
- During your level I fieldworks you will build a professional identity progressing from engagement in structured experiences, to observing, assisting, and co-treating with occupational therapists and inter-professional team members.
- You will develop professional reasoning and performance skills by engaging in the occupational therapy process with occupational therapy and non-occupational therapy fieldwork educators.
- Level I fieldwork is a stepping-stone toward level II fieldwork and entry-level practice.
- Because of limited availability of fieldwork sites and to ensure the best possible fit between you and a fieldwork site, you will likely be assigned to a site outside of Northern Colorado
Level IA Fieldwork: OT Process
Level IA fieldwork is focused on students’ understanding of the psychological and social factors that influence engagement in occupation. It is integrated with fall courses including OT 601 Occupation and Rehabilitation Science, OT 610 Professional Decision Making, and OT 620 Research to Practice I.
In your Level IA fieldwork, you will:
-
- Explore your own identity as a student therapist and the role of the occupational therapist.
- Develop a better understanding of the OT process, including assumptions, beliefs and their impact upon others while engaging with fieldwork educators and peers.
Level IB Fieldwork: Adult to Old Age
- You will continue in the spring of the first year with level IB fieldwork placement in an occupational therapy practice setting with adults and older adults.
- You will develop novice level skills with clients as they assist occupational therapists and inter-professional team members with the occupational therapy process.
- These Level IB fieldwork learning experiences create opportunities for you to progress to planning assessments and interventions and assisting with implementation.
- Fieldwork is integrated with spring courses including OT 630 and OT660 Occupational Performance: Adult to Old Age I and II, and OT 640 Research to Practice II.
- Intense course work builds upon level IB fieldwork to prepare you for your summer level II fieldwork with adults and older adults.
Level IIA Fieldwork: Adult to Old Age
- You progress to level IIA fieldwork in the summer after the first year of intensive coursework providing you with an opportunity to gain competence practicing as an entry-level occupational therapist.
- You will do the level IIA placement in adult and older adult settings, including acute care, in-patient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient rehab, acute long-term care, psychosocial, community, and behavioral health settings.
- Because of limited availability of fieldwork sites and to ensure the best possible fit between you and a fieldwork site, you may be required to commute up to 1 1/2 hours OR relocate to another region.
- You will return to campus after level IIA fieldwork to build new insights and perceptions about a practice that enhance reflective discussions to a deeper level of analysis.
Level IC Fieldwork: Infancy to Young Adult
- The third and final required level IC fieldwork occurs during the second year in pediatric settings from infancy to young adult age groups in a wide variety of contexts with occupational therapy and non-occupational therapy fieldwork educators.
- Level IC fieldwork is integrated with occupational therapy coursework occurring concurrently with fieldwork, depending upon the semester when taken, fall or spring.
Level IIB Fieldwork
- The fieldwork program culminates with the level IIB fieldwork placement occurring either during the second summer or the following fall semester.
- You can choose the practice area, location, and timing to do your level IIB fieldwork, going beyond the scope and not the same as your first level IIA placement.
- Because of limited availability of fieldwork sites and to ensure the best possible fit between you and a fieldwork site, you will likely be assigned to a site outside of Northern Colorado
