Fall 2020 Virtual Senior Show

This virtual show features the Interior Architecture and Design capstone projects. The large-scale 100,000 sq. ft. projects represent research-based design, illustrating students’ competency in designing complex, large-scale interior environments and practicing through varied discussions with attention to contemporary social and cultural issues and paradigms facing the profession.

Rise

RISE is a Co-Living facility for the creative class, with designed workspace to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration, and living spaces to provide a community. With focus on creating human connection and battling the changes of the world together, Rise strives to provide a creative space for the development of the future. 

The Eudaemonia Rehabilitation Center

The Eudaemonia Rehabilitation Center is an in-patient substance abuse rehabilitation center that is designed to serve as an alternative to incarceration for low-level, non-violent, drug-related rimes. This center will provide comprehensive care and support for all users. The space itself will be designed to support physical, mental, and emotional healing. 

The Missing Piece

The Missing Piece is a facility that provides resources and activities to individuals diagnosed with autism as well as their families and friends. The community is an answer to the realization that not enough is being done to support such families and individuals dealing with autism in the Midwest. 

Yampa River Community Center

Yampa River Community Center is located in Hayden, Colorado. With maker spaces, a performing arts suite, recreation and multipurpose rooms, a daycare, and more, this old high school building is transformed into a space for community members to flow down the same stream, get to know their neighbors, and achieve professional and personal goals. 

The Breeze Resort

The Breeze Resort is a wellness rejuvenation center located in Los Angeles, California. The resort will bestow upon guests a unique experience that will restore balance and tranquility within one’s mental health. The resort will be a mixed-use occupancy due to the variety of spaces it will host. 

Crom Castle Golf Club

Located in Northern Ireland, Crom Castle Golf Club aims to evoke a feeling of prestige and luxury amongst its visitors by paying tribute to the traditional nature of the golf industry. The club’s progressive values influenced design decisions to form facilities for all ages and genders to enjoy. 

The Heart House and Community Center

The Heart House and Community Center is a Child Protective Services facility, located in Salem, Oregon. The facility intends to bring awareness to the rising foster housing shortage and provide services of Child Protective Care. The purpose is to create a catalyst where foster children, workforce, and community members thrive, learn, and interact.

780 South Ocean Boulevard

780 South Ocean Boulevard is a public day club located in Palm Beach, Florida. The overall purpose of this project is to create a space where the community is welcome to enjoy amenities and encourage appreciation of Addison Mizner’s historic build while also catering to the needs of today’s users.

The Canis Wellness Center

The Canis Wellness Center is a hybrid institution that combines a wellness center with an animal shelter. Research has found that animals can significantly aid in the healing process. In turn, humans can provide the shelter animals with love and attention. The CWC nourishes this relationship for its restorative practices. 

El Destino

El Destino is a multipurpose building with a focus on affordable student housing. The Spanish name translates to “The Destination” because it is dedicated to helping the Latin community by providing a safe space for different users. The building includes a cafe, offices for a non-profit organization, and student apartments. 

Recreational Activities Center

My project is a Recreational Activities Center for the purpose of encouraging personal and professional development among at-risk youth and young adults. This building was designed as a way for those in need to become the best versions of themselves for their future; a location to foster entire community connection. 

The Smithsonian Museum of People (SMP)

The Smithsonian Museum of the People (SMP) is an art museum designed for inclusivity and community engagement. It seeks to make art approachable by prioritizing universal accessibility and elevating underrepresented voices. Additionally, it also promotes interactivity in spaces such as workshop studios and social areas for visitors to commingle. 

Kigali Green Campus

The Kigali Green Campus provides residential and educational resources to orphans in Rwanda. Resembling a small-scale college campus, it nurtures the needs of younger generations while simultaneously encouraging their independence. KGC encourages students towards successful futures by creating strong roots from which they can grow in the campus community. 

 

Ces Trois

Ces Trois, built in 1857, originally known as the Babcock Building, was the first Mental Institution in Columbia South Carolina. Abandoned for over a century, a family-owned hotel will take its place offering a farm-to-table bakery, wedding venue, spa, and more as it becomes the heart of the city. 

New Beyond

New Beyond is a New Belgium brewery located in Chicago, Illinois. It is a multi-purpose space that consists of a brewhouse, taphouse, restaurant, event space, and boutique hotel. New Belgium is expanding their brand from just being a brewery to a non-traditional event space. 

Le Cendres Safe-House

This safe-house with multi-purpose space is for women and children coming out of sex-slavery. It will be based off of Maslow’s hierarchy where their basic needs are met before entering other programs that help build their skills back into society. Spaces include residential, counseling, art therapy studios, and well-being spaces. 

Wavelength Therapy

Wavelength Therapy is an autism therapy center for children. The center is located in Aurora, Co. at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus in Building 400. The goal of this center is to help children with ASD and to bring awareness about ASD to the community. 

Thrive Co-Work

Thrive Co-Work is a space of community for working women to be able to come and thrive alongside each other in an environment that inspires creativity and productivity in a space that allows safety and focus. 

Guiding Start

Guiding Start, a multipurpose center providing communal spaces open to the public, and secure private residences for women who have experienced violence, is a place intended for safety and raising awareness. The spaces in the building promote community wellness and healing, and provide these women with a safe home. 

The LOCAL

The LOCAL is located in an up-and-coming neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The apartment building is designed to welcome residents aged 55 and older with not only a home, but a community. This is favorable for those who are still physically independent yet desire a connection with those around them. 

Safe Haven

Safe Haven is a multi-purpose community center and integrated housing for homeless families and individuals in Downtown Denver, Colorado. Hosting a pay-it-forward garden and cafe, a clinic, family center, and almost 50 individual rooms, this project will be a resource with design solutions that are affordable, sustainable, and community oriented. 

Flourish Elementary School

Capturing experiential moments with design, this learning environment will allow students to flourish and faculty to thrive, in an accessible environment that promotes exploration. The supportive climate as a result of these features will empower users of all backgrounds and ability levels to experience a positive relationship with the interior. 

Traverse Christian Church

Welcome to Traverse Christian Church, a place where the community comes together to follow Christ and disciple all. Based in Windsor, Colorado, Traverse wishes to build a community of believers to minister throughout northern Colorado. This church building strengthens that goal with a community-centered design that allows The community to come together. 

Zazu Casino

Zazu Casino sits at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains located at 200 S Sierra Madre St, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Zazu comes from the Hebrew origin meaning movement, designed to bring the outside in and the inside out. Featuring spaces with breathtaking views and areas of relaxation apart from the high energy casino. 

Aztec Housing

Located in Mexico City, this project focuses on creating cultural, communal, and safe housing for national and international university students. The goal is to establish a stepping stone into university and city life. It provides study and collaborative spaces for students, as well as spaces for community outreach programs. 

LUCID

LUCID is a place of transformation and celebration of individuals. The work-live environment provides collaboration between young professionals. The space symbolizes growth through community and inclusion through design choices and location. The concept is inspired by the individuality and control of personal imaginings and ambitions seen in lucid dreaming.  

The Corporate Headquarters for CCG

This corporate headquarters for CCG symbolizes the evolution of the workplace in a rapidly transforming world. The COVID-19 pandemic and climate change were both catalysts in the design of this adaptable building. Combining an established work and co-work environment with the new ground-floor approach, CONVERGE is designed to endlessly progress with its users. 

Mulberry Market 

 At Mulberry Market, growth, and togetherness – with each other and the planet is the goal. The Farm to Table restaurant, where fresh food is prepared daily as well as the offering of cooking classes geared towards enjoying the seasonal harvest. 

The Icicle Village Living Community

The Icicle Village Living Community was designed for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia as an assisted living facility that feels like home. It is a space meant to feel comforting and warm with natural materials, as well as add a challenging element to improve the cognitive function of the residents.

Paws and Palms

Paws and Palms is a human and K9 rehabilitation center that focuses on healing those with addiction through the use of animal-assisted therapy. It is also the goal of Paws and Palms to reduce the growing stray dog population. Together they can heal one another.

Heart Song

Heart Song uses music to create links between Alzheimer’s patients, caregivers, and the community. The whole facility is designed to reduce social isolation and create connections. Patients reside in small households that mimic residential living. The multipurpose room, spa, gym, art gallery and restaurant provide ample opportunity for spontaneous interactions.

Hotel Grand

Located in the heart of Kansas City’s Crossroads District, Hotel Grand transforms the historic Western Auto Building into a destination for locals and travelers to connect and create memorable experiences. The hotel’s array of amenities allow guests to eat, drink, view art, visit the wellness center, or stay awhile

Revive

Revive is centered around the idea of mental health care for younger generations that are too often overlooked. Users experience an exploration of the mind and emotional self within a space of acceptance and healing. Revive’s resources include traditional talk therapy (both individual and group) as well as more holistic approaches. 

Spectrum

Spectrum is a multipurpose living center for those with ASD. The space features a store in which residents can work without discrimination, and a healthcare center to help the residents with both mental and physical health. The upper levels are dedicated to the residents. 

The Monocle Hotel

The Monocle Hotel is located in Murano Italy. Murano holds a lot of culture and I wanted to find a way to highlight that throughout my design. I want the user to feel immersed in Italian culture to drive them to be a community member rather than a tourist.
